The India Market Attrition and Retention Study (IMARS) was initiated by Grant Thornton in the last quarter of 2008. Over 300 companies were identified to be a part of this survey and over 10,500 employees (across industries) participated in the initiative.
The study focused on key aspects related to retention and motivation of human resources in India's corporate sector. The main objective behind conducting the study was to receive candid and non manipulative inputs from the participating organisations.
The study comprised of two tools:
The HR perspective survey sought inputs from the HR management of the participating organizations, to draw insights into best practices adopted by employers in managing their people effectively. To get a complete picture, we also wanted to capture the attitudes and expectations of the employees of the organization on aspects related to work life. This was achieved through the Employee Survey.
Some of the key aspects that the survey covered were employee attrition, recruitment practices across industries and levels, training and development initiatives taken by the organisation, talent management and rewards systems and performance management policies and practices.
The IMARS report was released at the NHRD Conference held in Mumbai on 4 March 2009. The conference was chaired by Mr. Rajeev Dubey, President HR, Mahindra and Mahindra and was attended by over 150 HR professionals across industries.
